Behold the mighty slide soprano saxophone, quite possibly the strangest thing i have ever seen.
I want one.
Whoa - that just blew my mind. Why have I never seen this before? What sort of repertoire exists for it?
I thought it was a fake when i first sighted it, but further research proved that they were actually made for a short while.
It seems like they were mainly used for novelty effects although they did appear a little in jazz. There’s some good further reading here:

Seems like the bottom line is that they were excruciatingly difficult to play.
